Halftime Beting
Once you’ve gotten down the basics of betting on full-time results, you can look to halftime betting for additional options. These markets are more niche, meaning that bookies will rarely charge all that high of vig for them — but be careful to avoid the markets where there’s no reliable way to win over the long term! However, there are many markets where you can win over the long term. Halftime bets are often abbreviated HT. Here are some of them: First half 1×2 — Essentially the same as the full-time 1×2, but with extra variance (since teams play full matches of football, and look to win those and not halves). The high vig is also worth avoiding. First half Asian Handicap — Again, this is similar to the full-time Asian Handicap, our favorite type of bet at betting-strategy.org. You pick a team to win by a certain margin, lowering the possibility of a draw and coming close to evening the odds. The extra variance is worth considering, but if you’re looking to bet a side with halftime betting, this is the way to do it. First half Over / Under — This is where the punter picks a total combined score for the first half. For example, if the line is at 1.5 for the half-time bet, you’ll win if you pick the under and the teams combine for 0-1 goals, and you’ll win if you pick the over and the teams combine for two or more goals. Because of the low-scoring nature of association football, especially over the course of only a single half, the odds will not quite be equal — and there’s usually no Asian handicap option for this kind of bet. Both the first-half and over / under categories of bets are more for connoisseurs, so the vig is sure to be low. This First half Correct Score — This is where the punter picks an exact score for the first half, though it must also have the correct teams! If you wager on Chelsea 1-0 Aston HT and This has the same variance problem as the first half 1×2, but the payoff is better when you hit, and as a bettor you can analyze teams’ first-half trends to the point where this bet can be very profitable. Total corners, Total corners Asian handicap, and other specialties should be avoided in most cases. There’s not enough information to predict them. Half-time / Full-time bets are another type of bet, combining the bets you’ve learned here and the bets you’ve already learned at the Full-time article, that we explain in our set of intermediate articles.
